First, put on your wig, and make sure all your hair is tucked away! When I put mine on, is was incredibly flat and dull.

I plan to style my wig to be a faux hawk! First, I pull out my good ol' trusty hair straightener! First, turn it to a lower setting, just to be on the safe side. You wouldn't want to risk ruining your wig now, would you? You also must make sure your wig is heat resistant, otherwise, straightening isn't an option for your wig. While I was waiting for my straightener to warm up, I used my fingers to gently separate where I would be styling. Do not use a comb or brush, this can stretch and pull out your wig hair fibers.

Now, it's time to use the straightener! Now that it's warmed up, use it to carefully to style your hair in the direction you want your spikes. In my case, it's upward for the fauxhawk. Do this continuously to shape your wig. Straighten your wig bit by bit, I take my time in this part and only straighten in small sections at a time.
Continue to do this, and use your fingers to guide your your hair. Keep doing this until you get to what you want your wig to look like without using pomade or gel. Using gels and pomade can ruin your wig, making it clump together in large chunks, look unnaturally shiny, and have a stick or greasy feel to it, which is never pleasant.

Next, spray your hair with some regular hairspray, without coloring in it. For this wig I used TRESemmé Extra Firm Control hairspray. Make sure to keep it a good distance away from your wig.

By now, you should have the style you were looking for that still looks natural, and will hold for a while! Lastly just add whatever accessories you may want, and there you go, a lovely styled wig! |
