Edokinz: Cosplay and Photography.
E: These photos were taken at ColossalCon 2018, with a combination of my great friend OfStrangeShadows using my camera and myself editing. It's of my newest cosplay of Link from Breath of the Wild. I bought the game back in March 2017 and after a few hours of playing, I instantly fell in love with Link.
In total, I spent about 6 hours styling this wig. The result was beautiful but had me very hesitant with how well this wig would hold up for me, as I tried to use more heat styling than hairspray and gel. I wanted it to be able to blow in the wind as you would see in game yet still hold shape, and I feared that things would get tangled in travel or stray hairs would be very obvious. I'm happy to say that after changing into him numerous times throughout the convention time the wig held up miraculously well!
With knowing the scenery at the Kalahari, I knew instantly that if I cosplayed Link anywhere, it had to be at ColossalCon. No other cons around me have such beautiful backdrops that remind me so much of the scenery in Breath of the Wild.
E: I'm most proud of my Yugi Mutou cosplay. He'd been a dream cosplay of mine for the longest time, and back in 2013, I was finally able to make that dream happen. Since then I've been improving him every year that I can afford to. He's come a long way since I first debuted him, and I can't wait to see where I advance with him.
E: The Inigo and the Hansel are some of my go-to wigs. I find they work for a lot of the characters I like to cosplay.
E: I'm dying to try out a lace wig at some point! I've yet to cosplay a character whose hairline shows predominantly, so I haven't had the chance to purchase and work with one yet.
E: Almost every cosplay I have involves and Arda wig. I know some can be pricey, but I've always found they hold up so well, and styling them becomes so much easier when you know the product you are working with is of a great quality.

Kibbleking Cosplay: Cosplay!
KKC: The idea to cosplay a gijinka version of the Clefairy Teacher from the 'Clefairy Says' minigame in Pokemon Stadium started out as a joke, but the more I thought about it the more fun it seemed - so I did it! I didn't expect many people at the convention to get the reference - in fact, tons of people reacted by doing the dance moves, or telling me how hard the minigame was!
Now my dream is to wear her again with a group of Clefairy students to teach (and bop on the head when they get the moves wrong).
KKC: My Great Witch cosplay from the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney crossover game. It was my first time making armour with worbla, and I'm really happy with how all the accessories turned out.
More personally, it was a costume I tried to make once years ago - I got disheartened with my efforts and abandoned it. The fact that I was able to finally finish it and feel truly proud of my accomplishments means it will always hold an important place in my heart.
KKC: The Jeannie makes styling wigs for characters with pulled back hair a breeze. I have used the color Jade Green for a few characters with green hair - because of the variety of tones, it still manages to look nice and natural.
KKC: I voted for Rose Brown and Roseberry back when Arda was asking for suggestions on new colors. I don't have a character in mind, I just want an everyday wig in those colors - they're so soft and beautiful!

Arda: Tell us a little bit about your featured photo!
YS: I have always been a fan of characters with little screen time. Princess Kakyuu was one of my favorite characters in Sailor Moon growing up but very few people knew that she existed.
I decided she needed more love in the cosplay community and dedicated my summer to bring her to life. I was overjoyed when I stepped onto the convention floor and people started to recognize who I was. This beautiful photo helps remind me that every minor character is beautiful and deserves some love. I'm so happy to have brought her to life.
Arda: Which look/costume are you most proud of?
YS: I have a soft spot for all of my cosplays and my favorites change constantly, but I am particularly proud of my Princess Peach cosplay. The golden details killed my fingers but it was all worth it.
Arda: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
YS: The Malinda is my go-to wig for large "gravity defying" projects. Although I don't cosplay many blue haired characters I usually gravitate to the blue colors.
Arda: What Arda product are you dying to try out?
YS: I've been keeping my eye on the Victoria wig for a long time now. I'm hoping to create a Sakizou design in the future and finally order one. The hard part will be choosing the color!

Fantasie Notions Cosplay: Cosplay!
Arda: Tell us a little bit about your featured photo!
FNC: This was a dream cosplay, both to make and shoot! One of the things I love about cosplaying animated characters is choosing the different fabrics and textures to recreate the costume.
In this dress, I used lace and a beaded wire frame to make the stand-up collar. The bodice is made from deep blue micro suede with red velvet peeking through the sleeves, which gives it a very rich appearance. As a contrast, I wanted to keep the skirt light and airy, so I added a sheer, butter yellow layer over the skirt. Finally, with the cape I chose to stick with the movie version, where the outer layer appears black.
I was fortunate to get to shoot this dress on location at the local renaissance faire. I love the carpet of fall leaves under my feet and the golden hue of the light. This was a truly magical shoot!
Arda: Which look/costume are you most proud of?
FNC: It’s a close call between my Snow White, and my more recent Mary Poppins. The Snow White was a miracle, as I somehow managed to put it together in under two weeks!! Definitely my quickest costume construction to date. Mary Poppins, on the other hand, was a costume that I initially made thinking it would be quick and easy, and turned into a 3-month labor of love. There are nearly 30 hand sewn appliqués covering the skirt and sleeves of the dress!
Arda: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
FNC: I love the Eowyn style! The wig is the perfect length for most long haired characters without much of the hassle that comes with extra long wigs! The bangs are also very easy to alter, and the perfect length for certain characters like Ariel. I am the proud owner of three different Eowyn wigs, the first (and most used) of which is my dark purple one.
Arda: What Arda product are you dying to try out?
FNC: I’ve got my eyes on a lacefront Lindsay wig in Deep Brown. Hoping to use that for a planned Christine Daaé cosplay in the future.

Blue Jay Cosplay: Cosplay and makeup!
Arda: Tell us a little bit about your featured photo!
BJC: This was taken at Heroescon 2017. Originally I had done a classic Pearl outfit but I decided to change it up with Last One Out of Beach City Pearl. I love Steven Universe so much! The diversity and plot, in my opinion, make it one of the best cartoons of this decade.
The wig was styled with Got2B Glued products by basically holding it up so that the hair hung down to spray it.
The jacket was thrifted and I made the patch with some vinyl I had lying around. The gem is clay painted with nail polish and the shirt was handmade.
Makeup was basic, Mehron CreamBlend Stick in 1B Alabaster. Blue eyeshadow was brushed on the cheeks and around the eyes. Lipstick and eyebrow color in pinks.
The costume itself was a lot of fun to wear!
Arda: Which look/costume are you most proud of?
BJC: My Azula cosplay from Avatar the Last Airbender is my favorite cosplay to date. I handmade everything, even hand painted the boots. I wanted to give it more of a realistic feel so I used brocade and pleather materials only. I was especially proud of the wig styled from a Virginia in Deep Brown.
Arda: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
BJC: My favorite style is probably the Kyle, I just love undercuts and I was so excited when it was released. My favorite color has to be Deep Brown, I rarely get Black because Deep Brown just photographs so well!
Arda: What Arda product are you dying to try out?
BJC: Is it weird to say, besides the wigs I'm dying to get, I really want a Bald Cap? I really wanna cosplay Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender.
Arda: Anything else you’d like to tell us?
BJC: I am always suggesting Arda Wigs to friends because of the unique styles and colors they offer. True some wigs are pricey but if you're planning on wearing it multiple times it's worth the investment! Arda Wigs are strong and durable as well as optimal for styling because of their thickness.

Arda: Tell us a little bit about the featured photo!
Gen-Chu Cosplay: Aloy (from Horizon Zero Dawn) was my big project last year. I spent a lot of time making this costume and manage to keep it low cost by reusing stuff I had and keeping an eye for sales. The fur is actually from a carpet and look much better than any furry fabric I saw. The costume itself (not counting the bow and the wig) cost me around $80. A wisely invest $80.
For the hair I wanted something more spectacular and close to the look of the game, that's why I invest most of my budget for this cosplay into a good wig and some wefts. I went for a Dark Copper Red Matilda for the base and used Pumpkin and Ginger Blonde wefts to sew in and get a nice color blend. I made some dreadlocks out of those wefts and kept the rest as is to flow freely into the hairdo.
Even though I didn't get my makeup from Arda I did spend a fair amount of time making those freckles to look as real as possible - not of them are!
Arda: Which look/costume are you most proud of?
G: Aloy is by far my most complex and polished cosplay yet but one I really like is Gaige from Borderlands 2. I made this one more than 3 years ago and I still wear it every year at a con or another. This one was a big challenge for me and that's when my craftsmanship skills really went up. Making the clothes look cell shaded and distressed was a really fun challenge, not to mention the makeup. Bonus, the costume is actually really comfortable!
Arda: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
G: I bought different styles and colors from Arda and never got disappointed. I like the numerous varied choices, both for styles and colors. Silky is perfect for long wigs while the Classic fiber is really good with gravity-defying / static hairstyles.
Arda: What Arda product are you dying to try out?
G: The Jess and Kyle wigs with their undercut are really interesting and I'd like to put a hand on both those wigs for future projects!

Taylor and Willem: Cosplay, makeup, digital art, and WHATEVER WE CAN PAINT!
Arda: Tell us a little bit about the featured photo!
T+W: These photos are from our Nightborne elf cosplays at this past Blizzcon. This was the first time that we had to build costumes completely from nothing, AND then figure out how to bring them across the ocean from Iceland. The wigs help us out immensely- from holding our ears on to being the medium that we used to craft our realistic elf eyebrows! Wefts have so many extra uses!
Arda: Which look/costume are you most proud of?
T+W: These are probably our proudest look, simply because of how many weeks of work and planning went into them. We had to rely on many types of crafting and learn a few new skills along the way to make these happen! (Things like electrical circuit building, machine sewing, pattern making, foam craft and resin casting.) They represent a fully resized aesthetic to us, from a media that we deeply love- and these wigs really helped secure that vision for us.
Arda: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
T+W: These are my go-to wigs! I continue to purchase them, and they are my first choice when beginning to figure out a project because I know that they will be versatile. I'm a big fan of the Ilona because of its adaptable shape and its incredible volume- but I am incredibly partial to the Katinka in White as well. It was purchased originally for cosplay, but I wear it out all the time now, the cut is so flattering! We purchase a lot of the White colors- but the blondes that we have purchased in that past are shockingly natural and realistic, which can be hard to find. My favorite thing that Arda sells though, is WEFTS. I am constantly needing more hair for unusual accents and unorthodox uses (ie. massive detachable eyebrows that don't look too fake up close-) and this stuff would simply not be as possible without the ability to purchase weft in colors that match my wigs. #TEAMWEFT
Arda: What Arda product are you dying to try out?
T+W: I am DYING to try out the Dolly Lashes. Was actually trying to figure out how to purchase them internationally and then I got your email about them! (Also, of course, more wigs. Haha. Need at least four more this year!)

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying in 2009 when my friend invited my to an anime convention. She told me about the hobby and since I loved costumes and acting I has hooked from the beginning.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I would say the hardest part of this costume was the corset because of the amount of time it took. I had to create fabric and detailing before I could put the all layers together.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: That would definitely be Honey. I love all the little details on the costume.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Yes for sure my favorite style is the Luthien, I use this wig shape for everything it seems like. And for color i can’t really choose I love all of them.
Q: What was your most difficult challenge with this costume?
A: I would say the hardest part of this costume was the corset because of the amount of time it took. I had to create fabric and detailing before I could put the all layers together.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: I would say just try something before you say you can’t because you might just surprise yourself. There are lots of thing I learned because of this idea and it’s definitely help me improve over the years.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I used to LARP almost every week end for the past 4 years. I felt there was something missing. I missed crafting and learning new tricks. I started cosplaying in 2014 at Montreal’s Otakuthon as Ariel, my favorite Disney Princess. For optimal similarity I should have worn a fire truck red wig. The thing is, I really like my strawberry blonde mane and it wouldn’t have fitted under a wig. Not comfortably at any rate. So I modified it to fit my own hair, and from there I created my own style/brand of cosplay centered around my red head. This was the first time I ever went to a convention and it felt great, strutting around as Ariel, making new friends, finding new people with the same passion. I was hooked.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I love crafting and making things with my hands. But I prefer making all the details, the tiny things that add a personal touch to my creation. Jewels, armor, ornaments, hair and even my own feathers. Every time I start a new accessory, I’m kind of lost in time, forgetting about the outside world. It’s so relaxing.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Every one of my costume is different from the materials to the technics I use. This makes it harsh to decide which one I’m the proudest of myself. If you twisted my arm I would be tempted to say that, to this day, Merida is the one I worked the hardest on. When I first came up with the design she was the first to require a hairdo, armor and weapons. Two days before the convention, I had to fix a major flaw I inadvertently put into my dress. A flaw that, in the end, I couldn’t fix, so I had to start over! I poured my heart into that cosplay and I think it shows.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Using my real hair as a base, I really like the Sandy Brown that matches perfectly with my color. Finding the right one wasn’t an easy task, even with the internet. But I asked around for help, send some pictures and someone from your support team answered promptly with what turned out be a perfect match. I really love your products and the service is great. I ordered some long wefts and short bangs trough the past years and I always love the product.
Q: What was your most difficult challenge with this costume?
A: Thumbelina has really long hair. So first I had to find wefts long enough and attach them to a bun. That was the easy part. But after two and a half packs of wefts, this turned out to be to heavy for my scalp. Nothing could hold my bun in place! Argh, so many hours were lost there. Clips, combs and alligator hair clips weren’t enough to hold it properly. Finally, I used, more or less, fifteen long bobby pins and a metal hair clip for safety, and it all held up nicely. Every time I place this set-up on my head, the challenge is the same; a solid hold, that won’t rip out my own hair. If I don’t make my ponytail high enough, the bun is slowly going to slip downwards and it starts to pull at my own hairline. The bang was a smaller challenge but still took me close to 6 hours before I was satisfied with the end result. And it would seam like my dog has a taste for hairspray as it ate the first one.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Cosplay bullying is everywhere… I had a hard time with that. Ignore those comments, it’s the best thing you can do to keep having fun. You started for yourself, whatever your reasons, they were your own. You should keep it that way

Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: My favorite style is definitely the Suzi Classic and I’m obsessed with the bubblegum color
Q: What was your most difficult challenge with this costume?

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying in high school. I was a part of the theatre department and would sew our costumes, I eventually thought it would be cool to make a costume of my favorite video game character for funsies. Then when I went to my first convention I saw other people wearing all sorts of costumes and thus began my addiction to cosplaying and conventions.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part about the costume-making process is when I am about halfway done and my mound of material actually looks like something wearable. I like to just wear it in front of a mirror for awhile as I imagine the rest of the details I have to add. It gets me really excited for the end result and motivation to power through the rest of it.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of my D.Va cosplay from Overwatch because it really pushed me to improve my pattern-making abilities. The costume is comfy, low maintenance, and the fabrics photographed really well.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: My favorite Arda wig is my white Jane wig because it makes me feel like a fairy and never gets ratty. I also fell in love with Arda’s mahogany wig. I got so many compliments on the color and many people told me I should dye my real hair to match it.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: My advice for new cosplayers getting into the hobby would be to take your time to make your costume great. Spend the extra money for nice materials or fancy wigs. You want to honor the character you cosplay as, and if your costume is really great, you will want to wear it over and over again. Quality over quantity.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I first started cosplaying approximately 6 years ago. Just a while before my friend had worn a cosplay to Halloween, and I thought the idea of a wig and specific costume was very interesting. Shortly after I started attending events, and when I realized I could cosplay from one of my favourite games (Kingdom Hearts) I was hooked!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I LOVE the problem solving aspect. I like taking a 2D model of a costume or prop and figuring out how it would work in the real world, with limited resources, and for my specific body type. Which is probably why I make most of my costumes – I love to create.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Neo! One of the first corsets I ever made and I’m super proud of my wig styling and fabric choices. And that parasol is just too fun.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: My favourite style is the Ferrari. I feel like it’s a super versatile look and a great casual cut. My favourite colour to wear is Maroon, and I often dye my hair a similar colour.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: ASK QUESTIONS. As long as you’re polite, questions never hurt anybody, and most cosplayers are more than willing to help educate others because they remember being in your position. You can learn so many new techniques, and even if you don’t use them right away they’ll likely sit in your brain to remember later. It can help you learn so much faster and is a really great conversation starter!
This week we interviewed our customer, Moderately Okay Cosplay! See more of his work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying in 2013. I was heavily into League of Legends at the time, and really wanted to dress up like one of the characters in the game. However, it was nowhere near Halloween, and that’s when one of my friends said, “Why don’t you make the costume and wear it to a convention?” And the rest all fell into place and is history!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I like painting. I don’t know why. But I really enjoy painting armor. I feel like it’s the most important part of bringing a costume together.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I cosplayed the character Gyro Zeppeli from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and it’s the only costume I have where I’m happy with 99% of it. I don’t really know why, but I think it came out really well.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Color, no. All of the Arda colors are really great. But my favorite style is absolutely the Jareth. It’s so versatile and has never let me down.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: No matter what you do, you’re going to be met with nonconstructive criticism, hate and, well, some really unkind people. Don’t let the naysayers get you down. Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people and do what makes you happy!
This week we interviewed our customer, A to Z Cosplay! See more of her work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I guess you could technically say that I started to cosplay back in 2011 when I attended by my first convention in a costume that I didn’t consider specifically for Halloween. I was dating a guy that was very into costuming and being in character, it seemed incredibly interesting and fun, not to mention, an opportunity for me to pull out my sewing talents and get back into the swing of creating my own clothing.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: Challenge. Every costume that I make seems to contain an element that I haven’t encountered before. Such as, with Periwinkle, I made my own pattern for the costume…then dyed my own shoes…made my own wings…used lights…and styled my first wig. All of which, were new challenges for me. Learning something new is what keeps me creating.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Periwinkle is my most technical and accurate costume to date. I really put a lot of heart and soul into creating the sister to Tinkerbell. I found myself extremely driven to make something awesome because I was making my costume while 6 other members were doing the same. Having a deadline of an event scheduled for children with cancer within our non-profit organization Guardians of Justice was a huge drive, too.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I am a big fan of the Arda classic line, I tend to do a lot of characters that are cartoon based, which rarely have natural color hair. However, I am dying to create a character that will allow me to have bubble-gum pink hair at some point, something like the Hot Pink (AR014).
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Be open and ask questions. Do not be afraid to ask the person that you look up to for answers to your problems. If they don’t answer…screw them, find someone else to follow. I have been a long time fan of Kamui cosplay and no matter how big she has been, she has answered the questions I’ve had for her. Sometimes the cosplayers with less following have the best answers, because they did all the trial and erring themselves and will be able to tell you all the things to avoid. Not to mention, actually have interest in your doing well.

]]>This week we interviewed our customer, Myshonok Cosplay! See more of their work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: My first official cosplay was started on a whim in spring 2012, but I’d been interested in the hobby for years preceding that. Since I live in a small town, it took a while to finally start gathering resources and making my dream a reality. I’m still a relatively amateur cosplayer and congoer, but the experience continues to motivate me to break out of my “small town shell” and really put myself out there.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: The wigs, by FAR. I get so deep into the process from beginning to end that I’ll be stuck in my room for days on end when completing a wig project. Finding the perfect base, working out the design, modifying the base to whatever extent necessary, and pulling it all together in final styling is definitely most fun process for me. I’ve even gotten to the point now where I choose characters specifically for their hairstyles, just to give myself a challenge and develop or practice new techniques.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: All of my cosplays hold a certain amount of pride for me, mostly because of the specific processes behind each one and the different ways each one is received at conventions. While I’m not necessarily more proud of him than the rest, Bertolt Hoover has been with me for years and has become a kind of “comfort zone” cosplay. I’ve had tons of time to perfect the costume and become totally satisfied with the way I look as him, so wearing him is pretty effortless and always enjoyable. I’d say I’m proud of myself for taking an “easy” cosplay like that and really taking time to improve, and not just scrapping him in the beginning when I didn’t like the way I looked at first. Not to mention that he’s my favorite fictional character ever, bar-none.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I love the versatility of the Jett, but the Magnum is my favorite to work with. Something about the specific style and thickness makes them so easy to get to the perfect “anime” look. Color-wise, I’m a huge fan of Natural Black. No other wig manufacturer has something between black and dark brown that’s quite like it. It’s a great option for when you need a character’s hair to be super dark, but not stark black.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Never stop improving! There’s always room to make changes in any cosplay. It might be “finished” when you wear it to one con, but if there’s something you’re not satisfied with, rework it and make it better! It’s a great way to develop and practice new skills, and you’ll feel so much more accomplished in the long run.

]]>This week we interviewed our customer, Princess of Tea Cosplay! See more of her work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I’ve been going to conventions ever since I was a little girl and I’ve always loved seeing all the people dress up as all my favorite characters. I had always been interested in cosplay because my passion has always been acting and cosplay is very similar to me in that regard. Eventually, about 8 years ago, my brother only agreed to buy my next convention badge if I dressed up, and I haven’t stopped ever since!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part is getting to work on something new each time. I don’t do very well with repetitive projects over a long period of time, because I really enjoy getting to learn something new with each project that I take on. My other favorite part is picking out fabric! I tend to geek out over super nice fabric and I can gush about it for days.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: It’s so hard to choose! I have a lot of favorites, but I think I’d have to say Sakizou’s Opal. It’s one of my most elaborate costumes and taught me a lot of new skills, like hat making! It also was the first costume I ever entered in a cosplay contest, where I got Best in Show. I was really shocked, but I’m very grateful, because I’ve met so many great people and dear friends thanks to that experience.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I have a tendancy to do curly haired characters, so I really like Arda’s Luthien! I recently bought Arda’s Classic Color Ring, and my favorite color is definitely Mako Green, I hope to use it sometime!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Don’t worry so much about what people will think of your costume or how many people will recognize you. What’s important is cosplaying something you love and you will have fun no matter what, because you are doing it for you and you alone! When I started out I did pretty obscure characters, but I have no regrets about that because they were my all time favorite characters!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying almost four and a half years ago in August of 2011. Several months before then, I had played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the first time. On a whim, I decided it would be cool to make a Link costume. I did not know that cosplay even existed until stumbling across it on the internet months later. Since I had so much fun making my first costume, discovering the existence of cosplay was all I needed to launch myself fully into the hobby.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part is definitely the intensive hand crafting on a costume. While I also have fun planning for costumes and wearing them, nothing can top my enjoyment of the building and crafting.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of my recent costume, which is the Magic Armor version of Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (the costume featured). It had been a dream costume of mine almost since I started, and for at least a year or two I had been researching, planning, and thinking about how I was going to make each part. It was my first time making full armor and using Worbla, and it was the most time-consuming and tedious project I have done yet.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I really love all of your lacefront wigs. They are so beautiful! For colors, I would say either Dark Ash Blonde or Desert Brown. I find these colors so lovely and natural looking. I’ve had them mistaken for my real hair several times!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Have as much fun as possible! Start with a comfortable project and work your way from there. After your first costume or two, plan your future projects from easiest to hardest, and take note of what new skills you will learn on each. This way, you can learn something new on each project and progress more quickly! Spend as much time as you can researching and planning. Books from your local library are a great source for self-learning sewing, theater makeup, painting, etc. There are excellent tutorials online for cosplay-specific techniques like wig styling. Also, there are fabulous books about cosplay armor and prop making around now! Pick characters that you really want to make. Don’t get too discouraged by mistakes and never give up!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I always say I started in 2011, but the first time I cosplayed actually dates back to 2010…And I will always remember it as a traumatic experience. I started with a small group of friends and I cosplayed as Len Kagamine from Vocaloid. It was just for fun, I wasn’t expecting anything from it…But I remember I felt extremely awkward. Surrounded by all these people with crazy costumes I couldn’t understand, I really felt like a fish out of water. Oh yeah, it rained like hell the whole day (and it was winter…and I was basically wearing shorts and a t-shirt).
I’m glad I didn’t let that experience stop me though…The year later I tried again with another con, this time putting more effort in my cosplay. I had a ton of fun (and it was sunny lol)! Since then, I got more and more involved and met lots of friends along the way <3
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: The first thing I loved doing since I started was testing and improving make-up. I never did any weird or overcomplicated make-up (not yet), but I always wanted every part of my face and/or body to look at his best: I tried lots of techniques and followed lots of tutorials ’cause I wanted my eyebrows to have the right shape/colour for my character and I wanted to learn how to contour and make my skin look like porcelain…I’m still learning of course, you never stop learning!
Lately, more or less since last year, I’m really enjoying the crafting-side of cosplay: I like doing armor parts/weapons/accessories and love styling wigs…It’s really challenging, but so satisfying when you see the final result!
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: My Sora cosplay has a special place in my heart right now, I’m proud of every part of it…I still can’t believe I managed to make such a wig. I’m still a newbie with styling, but I wanted to do a nice work…So it took me almost a week to style it and I finished it the same day I had to wear it! I’m also very grateful that people loved it <3
Another cosplay I absolutely want to mention is my Bugs Bunny cosplay, inspired by a fanart from the amazing Sakimi-chan. It’s a very simple cosplay, but again it had a really unique haircut and making the wig was something I regretted at first but loved in the end…And c’mon…Who doesn’t adore Bugs?
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I think the Jareth one really is my favorite: it has lots of hair and it’s the best option when you need to make spiky-haired characters! About the color, I think I don’t have a specific favorite…But I love all the blonde and brown shades available. I still have to try one of your lacefront wigs though…Can’t wait to have the chance!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: I know it’s extremely clichéd, but first of all what matters is to have fun. Do whatever you want to do but do it with passion and creativity, don’t make other people’s opinions and expectations crush you. And don’t worry if at first you feel like you don’t fit in, you’ll quickly make lots of friends..! The cosplay world may seem weird and loony…But it’s very open, friendly and full of talented people!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: It was in 2005 that I went to my first convention ever, Japan Expo, one of the biggest conventions in Europe. I was here to see the première of the film Fullmetal Alchemist : Conqueror of Shamballa, but I also discovered that people dressed up in costumes for Japan Expo! Then I met some friends outside of cons who were cosplayers themselves and they told me more about cosplay. They even created an association, where event organizers (like stores, cities, museums) could pay them to create cosplays and animate the event. In 2010, once I had more time with my studies, I joined them. I started with altered clothes, then I joined them when everybody was working together on the week-end to create costumes. I’ve always been a gamer and I’ve played this new game for a while, mostly unknown at the time, called League of Legends. When they started their first cosplay contest, the Harrowing Masquerade, it gives me the need to create my own cosplay. The time limit was really short and I had to work hard for my studies, so I choose Red Card Katarina. I didn’t made it to the podium, but I tested my luck and I sent their Community Manager a brochure of our association, and asked if they would need cosplayers on events. I didn’t believed it but they were thrilled! That’s how I created my second cosplay, classic Katarina from the Dominion artwork. I even had the chance to attend Gamescom with them ! That’s how I’ve never stopped making costumes!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I love making armors and props the most. I love to see a giant pile of materials slowly take a form and then finally turn into a costume! I also like to work with wigs a lot, but it wasn’t like this at first. Back in the days, I was so afraid to work with wigs that I didn’t even brushed them, cause I thought I ‘d only make things worse…Then a friend asked me to help her work on her wig. She bought from Arda, so I watched all the tutorials available on the website and I finally realized it wasn’t so complicated! Since then I adore working on wigs, and I often start by the wig in my costumes now.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I’d say my Darkflame Shyvana cosplay, from League of Legends again. I started working on them in 2012 and I completed it in 2013, just in time to attend to Gamescom 2013, with Riot Games once again. This costume was a huge step for me cause I learned a lot of things thanks to it : I made my first helmet, my first full armor, and I even was one of the first people in France to work with Worbla at the time, all thanks to this costume! Especially with Worbla, it was pretty unknown at the time so I made a lot of experiments and researches on the material before having a decent result. This costume is still in nearly perfect condition, and I still wear it from time to time. I also like my officer Vi a lot, as it was a pretty complete costume in regards of the techniques I used : it involved a lot of sewing, I have flash leds, the hands can move, but I’m more emotionally attached to Shyvana, as I have made so many good memories with her.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I’m really in love with my Luthien in Natural Black! Not only the curls of the Luthien are so pretty, but the color Natural Black is really perfect to mimic black hair. I bought it originally for my Huntress cosplay from DC Comics, as she’s Italian. I still have to finish this cosplay but I ended up wearing this wig for modelling or even parties, as I love it so much!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Take a deep breath, let the fear go away and believe in yourself! For a long time I was convinced cosplay was too difficult, that the things I make would fall apart or look bad, or that I’ll waste a lot of fabric/foam/worbla/you name it. But you know what? Even before you fail, you have to give it a try and launch yourself. Maybe you’ll fail, nobody’s perfect. Rome wasn’t build in a day, so start with easy costumes or with altered clothes. And when you’ll succeed, and wear your first cosplay at a convention, I’ll guarantee you’ll have a blast!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying before I knew what cosplay was, actually! I dressed up as Kikyo from Inuyasha for Halloween one year in middle school. After that, I was researching online and I discovered there was a convention nearby! My first official convention was Ikasucon 2005 where I cosplayed Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist. What got me started was a love for the characters and a passion to learn how to make their outfits a reality!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: Probably being able to turn an imaginary outfit into something real. It’s very rewarding to start to see the pieces come together!
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: This was the first costume I’ve ever made armor for (out of craft foam and worbla) and I’m really proud of how it turned out! However if I were to go with a costume that I was the most proud of sewing-wise, I’d probably say my Merida cosplay from Brave.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I do! I think the Ferrari is a beautiful style of wig, they’re great for just casual wear if you need to change things up! A color I like and use a lot is Dark Ash Blonde. It’s a really nice mix of blonde fibers and isn’t too yellow.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: First and foremost: Have fun!! Always remember that all cosplayers are just like you – big ‘ol nerds who dress up in costumes and run around conventions in their spare time. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I know that I personally love helping out new cosplayers! It’s a great community full of great people, you’ll fit in just fine!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I went to my very first anime convention in 2010 and at this time, I did not know what cosplay was. It was only in 2014 that I realized how incredible this passion is. I saw all these cosplayers and the hard work they put in their costumes. This is when I started crafting my own cosplays and decided that I wanted to become a cosplayer.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: Armor making is a huge part I simply love about cosplay but the exact thing I love the most is armors and props painting. This is the moment when you finally get to see how your cosplay will look like when finished. And of course, it means you’re almost done! Haha!!
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Without any doubt, my Vaporeon cosplay, which is why I sent this photo for this Spotlight. This was my first time building a breastplate and pauldrons and I am really proud how it turned out. I just feel so good when I wear it!
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: All Arda Wigs I tried were simply awesome, but if I have to pick a single model to wear everyday of my life, it would be a “Jaguar”, that’s for sure! For the colors, I really like “Dark Lavender”, “Midnight Blue” and “Crimson”!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Of course, Rule #1 of cosplay is having fun!
However, a good advice is to try to always pick a cosplay you know you can achieve while always challenging yourself. Being pround of ourselves is, in my opinion, one of the best feeling you can have while cosplaying. Do not be afraid ! Mistakes are a big part of cosplay learning!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I grew up reading manga and found out about cosplay through a Shojo Beat magazine when I was in the sixth grade. The idea of dressing up as a character outside of Halloween was a radical, new concept for me, but at the time I lacked the confidence to actually cosplay and didn’t know how to access the community. Many years later in college (2013), I decided to finally give it a try and make my dreams come true. After looking at online tutorials and videos I was able to craft my first cosplay, San from Princess Mononoke, and then attend my first convention. It felt incredible to be dressed up in a crazy outfit while being surrounded by hundreds of other cosplayers. I was immediately hooked and since then I’ve been attending conventions and pumping out cosplays year-round.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part is seeing a 2D design and figuring out how that would transfer over into the real world. This part of the cosplay process requires a lot of problem solving, creative thinking, and planning, and it’s fun for me to draw up ideas for how to execute a difficult part of a cosplay.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I would have to say that I am most proud of my Transistor cosplay. Transistor is a game that I am very passionate about and the process of bringing Red to life felt very fulfilling. Aside from that, building the Transistor was a learning process every step of the way. I worked with a variety of new materials such as LEDs, plexiglass, acrylic, and worbla and learned many techniques for using them. Seeing the Transistor light up for the first time was very exciting and a huge relief and it felt like my work had finally paid off.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I love the short styles, especially the Hansel and Magnum. They’re low maintenance and I like how messy the Hansel can look with a little teasing. I also adore the Suzi lace front because the widow’s peak and layering are exquisite. As far as colors go, all of Arda’s colors are wonderful and it’s hard to name just one! I would have to say that my favorite colors to wear are the bright, vivid ones, especially Crimson, Plum, and Midnight Blue.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Just do it! Cosplay is an expression of your interests and a way to let your creativity flow. Don’t be afraid of what other people will think. If you have an interest in the hobby, formulate a plan for creating something wonderful. Also, no one starts off perfect. It takes practice and a lot of trial and error to get better. Don’t be afraid of failing, because messing up means you discovered a way not to do it… then you can approach it differently for next time and figure out a way that does work!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying almost two years ago now. I had wanted to get into it for years. I always admired cosplayers and what they were able to create. A good friend of mine have me the final push I needed and I rushed to finish Usagi’s school uniform from Sailor Moon. I got it done in a week and it was a hot mess, but I was proud of it. I decided right then I wanted to get better and make things like what I had seen others do.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: Honestly my favorite part of the process is the detail work. I know that sounds crazy, but I’m a stickler for accuracy and love trying to get as close as I can to the character or design. Sometimes I wonder what I have gotten myself into and then I remember how satisfying it is to see all your hard work and how it’s really brought the costume to life.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: The costume I am most proud of is honestly Yona. While simple, I added a lot of details to it. There’s pockets on the dress (yay storage), it’s completely lined and serged, I drafted the vest and belt pattern myself, hand painted the gold trim, blind stitched the hems, made my own props even! I could go on about why I’m proud of this costume. I really put a lot of love into it and I feel like it shows. It’s also the first cosplay that I can say is incredibly durable and will likely last me a long time.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: It’s hard to narrow down a favorite Arda wig of mine. I’ve used so many! I would probably say that my favorite wig is the Dany, especially in Titanium Blonde. I used it for a Daenerys cosplay and it looked so natural! Couldn’t even see my bright orange hair underneath. I also tend to like any wig in Aqua Blue. It’s a gorgeous color.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: My advice for new cosplayers is to not ever be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. I know if I hadn’t had some amazing people help me out a long the way, I would not have been able to accomplish some of my costumes. Sometimes people can be a little unwilling to help or share their construction tips/methods and that’s ok! For every person like that there are so many more who DO want to help! Just keep asking, but also don’t be afraid to do a little research on your own. Google is your best friend and I can honestly say my google- fu has gotten much better since I started cosplaying. Secondly, don’t let the negativity bring you down and don’t contribute to it. There is a small pocket of folks who can be not so great, as with anything. The cosplay community should be about helping each other and building each other up, not tearing each other down. The more people we have doing that, then the better an environment it is for everyone.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I first heard of cosplay in 2005 – but back then I thought it to be a bit weird and strange. (the photos I saw of it was a guy with beard cosplaying sailor moon) which kept me on a distance from it for some time. in 2007 I got a friend who cosplayed. I got a crush on her back then, and so as she asked if I wanted to join her in a cosplay group for a convention, I said yes, mainly just to get some more in common with her – and to give it a try. Since people around my own age did it too, how bad could it be?
I was hooked on it right away. I always loved performing at school, but always did I get those really terrible roles (tree number two, rock number 3 and that type of things) but in cosplay I got the chance to not only decide who to be, but also what the performance should be. However what really made me stick around for so many years were all the amazing people I met, and the close friends I got. It was really life changing
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: That really depends on the costume. If there is something different from the rest on the costume, that is what I look forwards to make the most (ex if the wig got an interesting styling, or if there is a special piece of jewerly or armor). In general when it comes to costume making I do a lot of handsewing and I love paying attention to small details.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: That must be either my Apollo or one of my Benten cosplays. For Apollo because it was my first time working with worbla, so it was a huge challenge at first. after the first hours time however I got into the routine of using it for jewerly. for Benten it is the patience I had that makes me feel proud. I spend everyday for half a year doing nothing but sewing on sequins (except when I was at work or school) . I did literally nothing but that. Never gonna do that again, but neither do I regret it.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Hard question! I really love the lacefront wigs in general, but my top favourite style must be the Matilda one. It got a lot of hair in it, and fits really nicely on my head. favourite color – I don’t have only one. But to mention a few there is the ash black – I used it for a Wolf costume, and the mixture of colors in the fibers gave it the perfect look. Ash blonde is also one of my favourites – it is a pale blonde but still it looks very natural. But I could go on with even more colors. The brown range of colors are amazing as well.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Cosplay is not just one hobby. There are many ways of enjoying the concept of cosplay; everything from just finding some clothes in your closet to hang out with your friends at a con in a costume, to crafting it yourself, going on photoshoots, or maybe performing and making videos. You’ll make the best of friends if you find those who enjoy it in the same way as you do. If you want to go all out and spend many thousands each year on costumes, it is much more fun to find other people who do the same – so you can relate and understand each other. Or if you just wanna goof around – go out and find the most goofy people you can at the convention, and enjoy fitting in with amazing people.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I actually started cosplaying in college, about 10 years ago. I grew up in a really small town, and wasn’t introduced into anything like this until I went to college. I had a friend that took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew, so her teachings that led to me being the cosplayer I am today.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I love researching and planning, but my favorite part is the sewing. Getting everything together just right, when an inserted corner come out perfect, or the seams line up just right, that’s what I strive for.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: It’s really a tie between Merida and Elsa. I love my wig for Merida and my hand beaded princess dress. Elsa was by far the most difficult with tons of hand stitching, new techniques, and my first lace front wig with heavy styling.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: My favorite wig to wear around is the Magnum in Spanish brown. It’s my Rapunzel and Kiki wig, so many people think it’s my real hair!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Do what makes you happy, and don’t let anyone put you down for doing things your own way. Cosplay is anything you make it, and you can rock it however you choose!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I first donned a cosplay costume way back in 2009. In 2008 I went to a fantasy festival in the Netherlands with a friend and when I saw all those people dressed up as fairies and magical creatures it inspired me to dress up. I asked myself: “Who or what do I want to be?” The first thing that came to mind was Yuna from FFX-2. I was in love with her design, but the costume seemed impossible to me at the time. A friend’s mum made the costume for me, I tried to straighten my way too long hair into a style that half resembled Yuna’s (it didn’t) and had a blast. The next year I tried to make Lulu’s costume from FFX on my own and after that I decided to start making costumes entirely on my own.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I particularly like the start and the beginning! I love looking at screenshots, concept art and taking a TON of screen caps in game (I mostly cosplay video game characters). I then take a notepad and draw every single element of the outfit, thinking about practical things like fasteners, materials, sewing methods, etc. I love ‘dissecting’ a costume like this and I may or may not get a bit too obsessed at this stage.
The other part I absolutely love is when you first see it come together. Whether that’s with a white blouse and a red towel wrapped around your waist because it’s the only thing you have at hand (Assassin’s Creed) or when you first put on everything for the first time and see yourself in the mirror. Pure bliss!
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: It’s hard to choose! I am very proud of my Yennefer of Vengerberg alternate costume I did, particularly because I sewed my own corset for it and managed to make the entire costume within two months. However, if I look at the complete picture I think so far I’m proudest of my Batman Arkham Knight: Harley Quinn. I went to great pains to ensure that every detail was right, even though the game wasn’t out yet and all I had to go on was one screenshot of concept art and Jessica Nigri’s amazing cosplay. I still love wearing that costume and it’s extremely liberating being Harley! I can just let go and be extra silly
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: It’s so hard to choose! I wear Arda Wigs for all my cosplays nowadays! I love the Chibi that I used for Harley. It’s super convincing and a lot of people were shocked when I told them I was wearing a wig. However, I recently ordered the Matilda in Pumpkin because I’ve started construction on Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn and I am in LOVE. It’s my first lace front wig and it’s so fluffy and thick and soft! The colour is also the perfect orange-y redhead colour in my opinion so I can’t wait to add wefts and braid it in her signature style!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: You got this! I firmly believe that anyone can cosplay, regardless of size, gender identity, skin colour or body type. If I can do this, you can do this! Start off simple, have fun and experiment! Cosplay is all about embracing who you are and having fun! Also: If you see another cosplayer, any cosplayer, be sure to compliment them on something or tell them you recognize their costume. I promise you that you will make their day!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I say that I started cosplaying a little over 5 years ago. I say that because I’ve been sewing and making costumes since I was 6 years old. But I didn’t really know that cosplay was a thing until 6 or so years ago. I got into cosplay because I had a few friends that did it and it just came naturally to me. I’ve always been a crafty and loved dressing up so cosplaying was just a great fit.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: This is a hard question because I love so many things about the process. When I decide I’m going to make a cosplay the first thing I do is find references and go wig shopping. Wig shopping is almost a stress reviling activity for me now. I also really enjoy thinking up all of the ways I could make parts of the cosplay. When I sew I kind of just go for it. I pattern on the cloth and wing it. this works for me, but not everyone. My favorite thing to see is near the end, when things start to come together and I almost want to cry because it looks better then I thought it would. Some times I almost cry because I’m so happy.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: This is an easy one. My Card Captor Sakura cosplay is my favorite of all of my cosplays so far. I have been wanting to cosplay her for years. When a friend of mine was working at JCP the store she worked at got rid of all of their table cloths. She know that I could use the fabric for something so she gave me a few trash bags of Red JCP table cloths. I saved them for close to 4 years until I thought I could do the costume justice. So it was one of my cosplay goals in life to be Card Captor Sakura in her fluffy red dress.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Right now my favorite Arda wig in a wig from a past seasonal collection. It’s the Owl. I love the color and it fits me really well I wear it all that time and people think it’s my real hair. I also love the magnum in general. My first ever wig was a light blond magnum that I still wear to this day.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: TAKE IT SLOW! Don’t take on to many things at first. Because when you take it slow you will be happier with what you have made. It’s better in my mind to make 3-5 new cosplays a year that are really well made that you love then 10+ a year. that will fall apart and you will not want to wear them again. Also budgeting is really important. I know it’s sad but you can’t spend all of your money on cosplay and con going. And most of all get to know other cosplayers and make friends. Your good cosplay friends will be some of you best friends in the world! I’m really glad that I started going to small cons at first because it let me take the time to really get to know some awesome people that I still hang out with every con I see them at. Always remember to have fun making and wearing your cosplay and you will be fine.

]]>This week we interviewed our customer, Alice from Arms, Armor and Awesome! See more of her work via her Website or Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying in 2009 because I was going to BlizzCon that year and, being a person who loves to research everything I do, I realized that people dressed up in costumes for it! I had always wanted to try cosplaying since I had a few friends who were into the hobby, so I commissioned a costume (finding out quickly that I didn’t have the time or skill to make one that I would be proud of that year) and styled my own wig and accessories. I was hooked since (and it didn’t hurt that I met my now husband at that same convention, the first time he was cosplaying too!) My husband, his brother, and I now cosplay together as Arms, Armor, and Awesome (or tripleacosplay).
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I love planning. I think it’s so important to visualize how every piece of the costume is going to be made before you even touch it. I find that it helps the process smoother for me, and when I have a list and sketches of every piece of the costume, it’s easier during the actual costume making process.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I have a Kerrigan costume that my husband and I made in 2011. We did everything from scratch: molded my body, sculpted, made all of the molds and cast many of the pieces in foam latex. The costume itself didn’t turn out quite as well as we hoped (the colors of the paint job didn’t turn out right in the bright lights of the convention) but I’m incredibly proud of how much work we put into it and how much we learned during that process.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Ferrari is my go-to when I want something natural looking and easy to wear without any styling for a day when I want to just wear a wig. When I have a costume that needs a blonde wig, I always go with ash blonde because I learned that it’s the best Arda blonde that matches my complexion.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Do your research, and don’t be afraid to ask other cosplayers questions (but only if you’ve searched for the answer first and couldn’t find it!). There are so many resources out there now for new cosplayers, and many other cosplayers putting up tutorials and photo guides on how they did a particular costume.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I’ve been sewing since I was little and costuming since high school, but I didn’t start cosplaying until 2011. Until that point, I loved wearing costumes but believed they were restricted to Halloween and the occasional Renaissance Festival visit. The minute I found out that cosplay meant I could make and wear costumes whenever I wanted, I was on board.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I think my favorite part is that mid-costume tipping point when all the random pieces you’ve been working on finally start to come together into something recognizable. I love the first time that you put all the parts together and you really see the character taking shape.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I recently made a Josephine Montilyet costume in about two weeks that I’m very proud of. It’s the first costume I’ve made where I really started to feel like I knew what I was doing.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I’m such a sucker for long, curly wigs — like Ferrari, and Luthien. I’m also in love with “Mint” but don’t yet own a wig in that color… still waiting for a good excuse for it!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Don’t get caught in the trap of trying to make what other people want instead of what you want. If you don’t cosplay something you’re passionate about, it won’t be worth the money and the sleepless nights and the pinpricks and the frustration.

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying at my very first convention which was New York Comic Con 2010. The reason it took me so long to get into this hobby was simple, I had no idea such a hobby even existed. I learned about it through a friend of my sister and after that first con I was completely hooked.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part of making a costume is probably creating a gravity defying wig. When I first start a wig I have absolutely no idea what i’m doing or if it will even work out. In the end it’s just so extremely rewarding to see what a mob of hair can actually become.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: The cosplay i’m most proud of goes to my Cloud Strife. I’ve done two versions, a male and female and both have been remade completely numerous of times. Just this year I finished remaking my male version and I could not be more proud of the results.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: My favorite Arda style hands down goes to the Magnum long in platinum blonde. I’ve bought so many wigs in that style and color I’ve lost count. It’s quite possibly one of the best base wigs I’ve worked with.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Never compare your cosplay to one someone else has done. Everyone does things different and being different isn’t a bad thing. I’ve seen too many cases where others including myself try and compare their work and in the end you will only make yourself depressed. Trust me it isn’t worth it, instead you shouldn’t be afraid to be yourself! You need to just be you and continue your love of being your favorite character without the care of comparing or what anyone says.
