This week we interviewed our customer, Dakun Cosplay! See more of their work via Facebook!

Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I always say I started in 2011, but the first time I cosplayed actually dates back to 2010…And I will always remember it as a traumatic experience. I started with a small group of friends and I cosplayed as Len Kagamine from Vocaloid. It was just for fun, I wasn’t expecting anything from it…But I remember I felt extremely awkward. Surrounded by all these people with crazy costumes I couldn’t understand, I really felt like a fish out of water. Oh yeah, it rained like hell the whole day (and it was winter…and I was basically wearing shorts and a t-shirt).

I’m glad I didn’t let that experience stop me though…The year later I tried again with another con, this time putting more effort in my cosplay. I had a ton of fun (and it was sunny lol)! Since then, I got more and more involved and met lots of friends along the way <3

Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: The first thing I loved doing since I started was testing and improving make-up. I never did any weird or overcomplicated make-up (not yet), but I always wanted every part of my face and/or body to look at his best: I tried lots of techniques and followed lots of tutorials ’cause I wanted my eyebrows to have the right shape/colour for my character and I wanted to learn how to contour and make my skin look like porcelain…I’m still learning of course, you never stop learning!
Lately, more or less since last year, I’m really enjoying the crafting-side of cosplay: I like doing armor parts/weapons/accessories and love styling wigs…It’s really challenging, but so satisfying when you see the final result!

Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: My Sora cosplay has a special place in my heart right now, I’m proud of every part of it…I still can’t believe I managed to make such a wig. I’m still a newbie with styling, but I wanted to do a nice work…So it took me almost a week to style it and I finished it the same day I had to wear it! I’m also very grateful that people loved it <3
Another cosplay I absolutely want to mention is my Bugs Bunny cosplay, inspired by a fanart from the amazing Sakimi-chan. It’s a very simple cosplay, but again it had a really unique haircut and making the wig was something I regretted at first but loved in the end…And c’mon…Who doesn’t adore Bugs?

Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I think the Jareth one really is my favorite: it has lots of hair and it’s the best option when you need to make spiky-haired characters! About the color, I think I don’t have a specific favorite…But I love all the blonde and brown shades available. I still have to try one of your lacefront wigs though…Can’t wait to have the chance!

Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: I know it’s extremely clichéd, but first of all what matters is to have fun. Do whatever you want to do but do it with passion and creativity, don’t make other people’s opinions and expectations crush you. And don’t worry if at first you feel like you don’t fit in, you’ll quickly make lots of friends..! The cosplay world may seem weird and loony…But it’s very open, friendly and full of talented people!
