This week we interviewed our customer, Momokun Cosplay! See more of her work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying several months ago, so I’m still quite new to it all. But with the amount of attention and fame I have you wouldn’t think so. I got started into cosplaying and making costumes really simply actually, I wanted to make my own 3DM gear from attack on titan, and I did, then wore it to Anime expo 2015, and everyone loved it. What started as just a simple one time thing has now become a career for me.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: There’s so much, from the sewing, sizing, detailing, and what not. But my ultimate favorite part would be the prop making. I’ve always been very good with my hands and creating stuff so prop making is very simple to me, and as I learn more and more it continues to become even simpler.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Being that I am still a newer cosplayer I’ve had help with a lot of my cosplayer in the first couple months, but recently I made a Mewtwo gijinka from scratch, and it was absolutely beautiful, it got an insane amount of attention at conventions, people loved it, and it even got featured in MangaBomb magazine. I’m so proud of it because it really tested my skill as a cosplayer and it felt so good to finally say “Hey I made this all by myself and from scratch!”
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Jeannie, it’s friggin’ beautiful, I love everything about it. Super easy to cut and style, and the natural colors are to die for.
Q: What was your most difficult challenge with this costume?
A: The shoes! The shoes are handmade with Worbla, foam and Velcro. And this was my third remake of them, so there’s a lot of photos of my Samus cosplay with her power boots on but they all look different because I was never happy with them, haha!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Like Shia said, JUST DO IT! Don’t let anyone tell you cosplay is for a select few, it’s for everyone. It’s for those people who want to express their love for nerd culture and bring their favorite Characters to life! Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too skinny, fat, ugly, pretty, dark, light, purple with polka dots because there are no rules to cosplay, just go have fun with it. And whether you make or buy your cosplay, it doesn’t matter, you are a cosplayer!
